The Southbank Centre’s South Asian Sounds announces line-up for 2025

The lineup for the Southbank Centre’s South Asian Sounds celebration of music and culture has been announced, set to take place from May 15-18 on the banks of the Thames for its second edition. The event promises to showcase UK-based artists from the Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi musical traditions. Performances will take place at several venues, including the Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room, and Queen Elizabeth Hall, among others.

Several acts are confirmed to perform at the event, including the nine-minute “spiritual finale” led by Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali. From Thursday, May 15, acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Baluji Shrivastav will perform with a diverse roster of artists including Linda Shanovitch, Alex Hill, Sukhdeep Dhanjal, and Rishi Gulati. On the next day, composer Sumeet Chopra will partner with Punjabi star Jaz Dhami for a blend of UK electronic production and traditional Punjabi music.

Other acts confirmed for the lineup are Bollywood star Osman Mir, who will showcase Gujarat’s folk traditions with Third Culture Collective, and Sufi devotional music from Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali on Sunday, May 18.

Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on January 22, while members can purchase them from January 21, from the Southbank Centre’s website. Mark Ball, artistic director of Southbank Centre, said the South Asian Sounds event builds on the centre’s legacy of showcasing diverse musical cultures that connect new and seasoned audiences alike to this rich heritage and new creative voices.
