Andrew and Dawn Searle’s deaths are being treated as a “clearly a homicide”, according to local mayor Jean-Sébastien Orcibal. The Searles were found at their property in Les Pesquiès, France, by a neighbour who became worried after the couple failed to show for a planned dog walk. Callum Kerr, son of Dawn Searle and a Netflix actor who has also worked on the soap opera Hollyoaks, issued a statement on behalf of the couple’s four children and requested privacy for his family. The UK’s Foreign Office has confirmed that it is supporting the Searle family.
The Searles were well integrated into their village and frequently invited neighbours to join them for a drink. While Mr Searle, who worked in financial crime prevention for companies such as Standard Life and Barclays Bank, was originally from England, Dawn hailled from Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders, and the couple lived in Musselburgh near Edinburgh before moving to France. No criminal case has yet been opened and there is no preferred theory about how the couple died. Forensics teams, a helicopter and a drone have been part of the investigations, alongside a forensic doctor and criminal investigation technicians.
Kerr, aged 30, became involved in his mother’s wedding to Andrew Searle, walking her down the aisle. He called the experience a “pleasure”. It is unclear how the couple died. Mr Orcibal has dismissed rumours of break-In robbery gone wrong, and has said that no knife was found at the scene. Investigations continue into the couple’s sudden deaths
