Lady Anne Dodd to be awarded top civic honour

Lady Anne Dodd is set to be awarded a Citizen of Honour title by Liverpool. The wife of the late Sir Ken Dodd was made a trustee of the Ken Dodd Charitable Foundation in 2015, which has since made over 50 donations to over 30 charities, with a focus on arts in Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area. Charitable donations were made to Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, Liverpool Theatre School, and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Additionally, Lady Dodd has contributed to several projects in her community and received recognition from various local groups such as St John the Evangelist Church and Happiness Hall in Knotty Ash, as well as Knotty Ash Primary School.

The Liverpool Law Society has now also been awarded the Freedom of Association by the council for their work in providing free legal advice. The title of Citizen of Honour is reserved for those who make a significant contribution to the city and Lady Dodd’s charity work and support for community projects in Liverpool, such as the performing arts, was noted. Her passion and selflessness in this regard were given much praise; Liverpool City Council’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Richard Kemp CBE, highlighted her impressive and generous work, often going unnoticed as it’s done out of a desire to support the community she loves.

Leader of Liverpool City Council, Cllr Liam Robinson, praised Lady Dodd’s embodiment of Citizen of Honour, particularly noting her unprecedented effort to advance her hometown, both through community groups and the charities supported by the Ken Dodd Charitable Foundation. Lady Dodd spoke of her gratitude for the award, thanking the Liverpool City Council and expressing her pride in carrying on her late husband’s wishes to benefit others through charitable work, meeting many incredible workers and volunteers in the charity world. The presentation of the Citizen of Honour is eagerly anticipated by Anne Dodd, a loyal resident of Liverpool for over half a century
