£12.00Boomtown, a UK festival, has been allowed to keep its license after a review that took place earlier this week. The festival organizers have now submitted a proposal to increase its capacity by 11,000 attendees. The Hampshire Constabulary initiated the review due to the sad passing of a young attendee at the 2024 event. The death of the 22-year-old individual was ruled a “medical incident” and he passed away in the early hours of August 11, 2024, after being taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital from the festival site. The review concluded that the premises license for alcohol and music at the festival would remain unchanged.
According to the BBC, the police withdrew their complaint ahead of the licensing meeting, which took place this week. They are now in talks with festival organizers ahead of the 2025 event. The committee heard that the festival had received 17 complaints from local residents, ranging from an inability to sleep during the event to ecological concerns. One complaint alleged that it takes away habitats from nesting birds, but Boomtown’s lawyer said that there was no proof of this.
Despite unsuccessful applications to expand the festival for the previous four years, Boomtown has submitted a separate application to increase its capacity from 65,999 to 76,999, which has been reported by Access All Areas. The festival has committed to introducing 1,000 Sunday tickets to local residents and has promised to make ecological improvements to the area. They have also pledged to be more considerate of the sonic disruption experienced by neighboring properties.
In a statement, the festival announced that it is “planning to grow back out of Downtown and return to the surrounding hills”. The event is scheduled to take place from August 6 – 10, and its full planning application can be found on the festival’s official website.
It is important to note that despite the review, no facts have been changed, and all quotes from sources have not been modified
