Statement on Colomendy Outdoor Activity Centre

Liverpool City Council will be taking back the lease for Colomendy Outdoor Activity Centre after the current leaseholder, Kingswood Colomendy Ltd, and its parent company, Inspiring Learning Ltd, both went into administration earlier this month. Kingswood Colomendy Ltd had been granted a 30-year lease for the North Wales site in 2007. The centre, which is located near Mold, is currently closed and the lease will be handed back to the council. This is referred to as disclaiming the lease.

As the freehold owner of the site, the council will undertake an options appraisal for the long-term use of the land once the lease has been returned. Although it is unclear what these options may be, there is expected to be significant interest from other organisations who are interested in taking over the site and its facilities for their own purposes. The centre was once a popular destination for those seeking a range of activities, offering opportunities such as abseiling, caving, climbing, archery, and more.

The decision to return the lease to Liverpool City Council may cause some disruption for organisations who had previously made bookings for the centre and had plans to utilise the facilities prior to the leaseholder’s collapse. It is not yet known if or when the centre will reopen under new administration or leadership, or if the site will be put to an entirely different use. Regardless, the council is committed to finding the best use for the facilities and ensuring that they are an asset to the local community and visitors to the area
