Chelsea striker Samantha Kerr appeared in Kingston Crown Court to deny a charge of causing racially aggravated harassment. Kerr was alleged to have used “whiteness as an insult” during an exchange with police at Twickenham station. The Australia international called PC Stephen Lovell “stupid and white”, but denies causing harassment. During cross-examination, Kerr insisted that the hostilities were in response to the taxi driver and not PC Lovell. Kerr’s partner, West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis, also gave evidence, testifying that PC Lovell’s treatment was dismissive after one of their most harrowing experiences.
