Liverpool in the spotlight for new screen tourism campaign

Liverpool has launched the second phase of its screen tourism campaign, Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting, in partnership with Liverpool Film Office. This stage seeks to promote Liverpool City Region’s iconic film and television locations, encouraging guests to explore the city through the lens of their favourite films and TV shows, highlighting the vibrant film heritage of the area and its reputation as a top filming destination. The Ultimate Setting comprises a self-guided downloadable map of the region’s most famous film locations, quizzes on Liverpool’s biggest stars, immersive digital walking tours, and curated itineraries for the ultimate film-themed trip to Liverpool City Region.

Liverpool City Region has attracted some of the biggest filmmakers worldwide as a backdrop for their blockbuster hits, ranging from the picturesque villages in Wirral and the iconic Liverpool waterfront to the coastal delights of Southport. Some of these have included Peaky Blinders, The Batman, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Harry Potter, Captain America: The First Avenger, and even a music video from pop-superstar Taylor Swift. This campaign puts the chance to see the real-world settings behind these productions to visitors and film fans.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Liverpool City Region Local Visitor Economy Partnership, states, “Liverpool City Region has long been a favourite location for filmmakers worldwide, and this campaign is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our city region’s cultural richness and cinematic appeal. By aligning our campaign with VisitBritain’s ‘Starring GREAT Britain’ campaign, we further firm our place on the global film tourism map.”

VisitBritain has conducted research, which indicates that over ninety percent of potential visitors to the UK are eager to explore locations seen on film, underlining the crucial role that screen tourism plays in attracting visitors. VisitBritain’s CEO Patricia Yates said, “With Liverpool providing the backdrop, inspiration and setting for so many stories brought to life on the silver screen, film-loving visitors really are spoilt for choice!” This campaign comes at the perfect time, in line with the launch of VisitBritain’s international “Starring GREAT Britain” campaign, with Britain as the star of the show.

Liverpool. The Ultimate Setting also showcases the excellent work of Liverpool Film Office, celebrating its 35th anniversary. The Film Office has recently supported big productions such as Harlan Coben’s Missing You, BBC drama The City Is Ours, and Guy Ritchie’s upcoming feature film Fountain of Youth. Lynn Saunders, head of Liverpool Film Office, said, “My team is thrilled to see visitors explore some of our most prized film locations and discover the magic behind the screen, thanks to the VisitLiverpool campaign.
