Russ Cook, also known as Hardest Geezer, is preparing for his next challenge – running the entire length of New Zealand. Cook completed his previous endurance challenge, running the entire length of Africa in 352 days, in April of last year. The 27-year-old ultrarunner from Worthing, West Sussex will take on 60 ultramarathons as part of the 1,864 mile (3,000km) Te Araroa Trail in March. Cook will navigate difficult terrain, including mountains, forests, coastlines, and cities.
After taking time off to recover from his previous challenge, Cook said he is ready to tackle the difficult journey ahead: “After a big challenge, it took some time for the body to get back to reality. But I’m feeling fresh and ready for the next one.” When asked about the daunting journey, Cook said: “It’s going to be an absolute brutal one on the legs, like I’ve never done before.” He expects the most challenging aspect of his journey to be the 300,000-foot (7,620m) elevation, equivalent to climbing 10 Mount Everests.
While Cook’s previous endurance challenge raised over £1 million for charity, he plans to bungee jump off Auckland Harbour Bridge, canyon swing in Queenstown, and skydive in Abel Tasman during his New Zealand journey. Cook also expressed his excitement to explore the “adventure capital of the world” with an “absolute spicy” journey. During his previous journey, Cook faced many challenges, including visa issues, health concerns, geopolitical problems, and even an armed robbery.
Cook’s New Zealand challenge is expected to take approximately ten weeks to complete. With perseverance and a love for a good challenge, Russ Cook certainly has what it takes to accomplish his next endurance goal
