A 15-year-old boy has passed away after being fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. At around 12:17 GMT, the teenager was attacked, and police and paramedics were called. He subsequently died from his injuries not long after. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield said at a press conference that it was still early stages in the investigation. She proceeded to note that officers were offering support to those involved. “We urge you to be mindful that there are loved ones at the centre of this,” Butterfield added. She also urged people to refrain from posting any details on social media “which could be distressing to them [the family] and detrimental to our investigation.”
A large police presence remains at the school where the incident occurred and paramedics and police were called to the scene-outside of All Saints Catholic High School-just before noon. Reports suggest that the school had implemented a lockdown at the start of the year due to ‘threatening behaviour between a small number of pupils’. According to the Ofsted inspection conducted in October 2023, the school was rated as Good overall, with inspectors stating that its ‘strong ethos of warmth and respect.’ The victim’s family and school community has also received support from South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard who has offered his “love, thoughts, and prayers”.
Amaan Ahmed, who manages the Castle Asian Community Trust near the school, has noted that knife crime in the area is not uncommon and his team works with young people to avoid knife-related incidents. He has expressed his concern that parents will be reluctant to send their children to school following this incident. “If it can happen in a public place like a school, people will be worried about going to the park I think too,” he added
