A tragic accident has left four people dead after the vehicle they were in crashed into a building. The incident occurred in Colchester, where police were called at 04:40 GMT to reports of a “serious” crash on Magdalen Street. Despite the attendance of other emergency services, the four victims died at the scene. Their families were informed and will be supported by specialist officials.
Magdalen Street was closed all day after the crash to facilitate the recovery of the vehicle and inquiries into the incident. However, the road has been reopened, and some buildings were being checked for structural damage. Essex Police are appealing for more information about the accident to anyone who might be able to help them.
Stuart Hooper, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, thanked businesses and residents in the area for their support while expressing condolences. He also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the emergency services personnel who had worked diligently and compassionately to ensure the dignity of the deceased.
