UK Drill rapper Digga D jailed for supplying cannabis

UK drill artist, Rhys Herbert, known professionally as Digga D, has been sentenced to three years and 11 months in jail for the importation and supply of 99lbs (45kg) of cannabis. The 24-year-old was taken into custody on 21 February 2024, while broadcasting on Instagram from his house near Lincoln. Herbert pleaded guilty in May to charges relating to cannabis supply and importation, but denied any commercial sale of Class B drugs at Lincoln Crown Court. However, a judge decided that Herbert played a significant role in a cannabis supply chain during a Newton Hearing in December.

Judge Simon Hirst determined the level of possession involved in Herbert’s drug dealing and said he was “satisfied” that the rapper played a significant role in supplying cannabis, having sold at least 99lbs (45kg) for a commercial profit. Hirst added that “The level of the offending is so serious that there must be a sentence of imprisonment.” Herbert, who had six prior convictions for 13 offences, including possession of a blade and violent disorder, mitigated that his time behind bars would not be beneficial, stating that he is “not a danger to the public” and is in fact “a contributor to the public.”

Det Con Jacob Saville from the Metropolitan Police commented that the evidence gathered against Herbert was “irrefutable.” He further added that “Drugs and the associated criminality they bring devastates communities and we will continue to identify and arrest those responsible who engage in this activity.”

Digga D is a prominent artist in the UK drill scene, with his tracks receiving millions of hits online. Herbert was on remand since his arrest in February 2024 and followed the sentence hearing via videolink from HMP Wormwood Scrubs
