Jack Fincham of Love Island freed from jail in dangerous dog case

Reality TV star Jack Fincham has been released from prison hours after receiving a six-week sentence for dangerous dog offences. The 32-year-old former winner of ITV reality contest Love Island pleaded guilty to two offences of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. His black cane corso had bitten a runner, Robert Sudell, in Swanley, Kent, in September 2022 and attacked a woman in Grays, Essex, last year. Fincham had earlier agreed to a caution but was prosecuted for the second offence. He was ordered to pay £3,680 ($4,919), including £961 in fines, £200 compensation to Sudell, and costs for kennelling the dog.

Fincham, a former pen salesman, won Love Island in 2018 with contestant Dani Dyer. They parted ways nine months later. Prosecutor Erin Peck said Sudell had initially accepted an apology from Fincham over the first incident and was told the dog, Elvis, needed to be muzzled. Instead, the former reality star broke the conditions of the caution when the attack on the woman took place. The dog must now be muzzled in public places, be kept on a lead, and not be left with anyone aged under 16.

Richard Cooper, Fincham’s lawyer, said his client had “no savings”. Fincham was on a suspended sentence for a driving offence when the dog attacks took place. The suspended sentence was considered in sentencing on Fincham. Defence lawyers lodged an appeal against the six-week sentence immediately after the hearing. Fincham was released and is to report to Grays police station each Friday. He also must attend a bail application hearing at Basildon Crown Court
