A police officer in Greater Manchester was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle. The officer was responding to reports of suspicious behaviour at a retail park in Cheadle when the incident occurred on Saturday evening. A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), as she approached the vehicle in the car park, it was driven towards her at speed. Chief Inspector John Picton stated that “This incident is truly shocking, and shows how quickly situations our frontline officers attend can escalate.”
The officer has been taken to hospital where she is still receiving treatment for her injuries. Despite the severity of her injuries, Chief Inspector Picton stated that she is recovering well, and that “is being supported by all of us at the Stockport district”.
GMP has released a statement, saying that they “condemn all assaults on our officers who are working to protect communities from harm”. The incident is still under investigation
