Dunstable man, 83, charged with murdering woman, 84, in home

Authorities in Bedfordshire have charged an 83-year-old man with the murder of an 84-year-old woman who was discovered deceased in her home. Margaret Worby was declared dead at the scene in Kingsbury Avenue, Dunstable, shortly after 1:40pm on Thursday following an alert from a member of the public. According to Bedfordshire Police, Roger Worby was also from Kingsbury Avenue and was charged with murder; he appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was subsequently remanded in custody. A spokesperson for the agency confirmed he will appear again at Luton Crown Court on Tuesday.

Bedfordshire’s police department has appealed for anyone with any information about the investigation to come forward. Detective Inspector Dani Bailey, who leads Bedfordshire Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “We would like to reassure residents that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this case…I would also like to stress that incidents like this are incredibly rare in Bedfordshire, however I understand that this may have caused concern within the local community.”

Currently, there is no information about the relationship between the victim and the accused, but the two individuals resided in the same street. Once again, Detective Inspector Bailey has stated that there is no projected risk to other members of the public, nor is there a search for additional suspects in relation to the incident. According to latest news reports, officers were still investigating Kingsbury Avenue over the weekend as inquiries into the homicide continued.

Consequently, the Bedfordshire police have requested that anyone with any information about the incident come forward. As Detective Inspector Daniel Bailey who leads the Major Crime Unit has stated: “We would like to reassure residents that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this case…,” adding that “incidents like this are incredibly rare in Bedfordshire, however, I understand that this may have caused concern within the local community.”
