Bristol student tops Fantasy Premier League worldwide


A Bristol Grammar School Year 11 pupil, Charlie, has climbed to third place in the world’s Fantasy Premier League gameweek rankings, a gaming phenomenon popular across the world. Charlie said he has played the game for some time but really got into it during Euro 2024, the previous year. He explained his success involves watching a lot of football, studying the players and their statistics to pick the best for his team. He plans to remain calm, despite the nerve-racking decisions to make, as he endeavors to stay high up the ranks.

A feat accomplished by Charlie has impressed many including BBC sportscaster, Alistair Bruce-Ball, who currently ranks outside the top million players in his 19th season of playing the game. He noted Charlie’s achievement as being “incredibly impressive,” especially as the season has progressed past the halfway mark. The game has grown more competitive, and so, ranking among the top 50,000 is an achievement. A finish within the top 5,000 to 10,000 once was considered a mark of consistent performance. Bruce-Ball wished Charlie luck for the rest of the season.

Charlie, who is still in awe of his success, notes that many of his schoolmates did not believe him and has images to prove his claim. It would be great to stay among the top 1,000 by the season’s end, but Charlie takes his achievements with a calm outlook
