Police in London are appealing for witnesses after a man, Ian Airlie, was found dead at his home in Greenwich, south-east London. The family of the 48-year old told the Metropolitan Police that Airlie had been pushed down an escalator at London’s Waterloo station weeks before his death. According to reports, a woman fell on the same escalator and was also urged to contact police over the incident. Airlie was also reported to have spoken to a woman on a bus from North Greenwich underground station on the day he was allegedly pushed. He was carrying a medium-sized black suitcase and wearing a black T-shirt, light grey jogging bottoms and a turquoise and grey rucksack.
The police now believe the alleged incident occurred just after 17:00 BST on 15 September.
A post-mortem examination that was carried out on the 29 October was inconclusive and further tests are awaited. Det Insp Chris Rogers of the Metropolitan Police said: “Mr Airlie’s death is tragic, and his family continue to mourn the loss of a loving son, partner, brother and uncle. We are determined to piece together the events, and give Mr Airlie’s family the answers they are searching for. You can assist us by coming forward with any information. However small it may seem to you, this could be the key we need to unlock the investigation.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact British Transport Police by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 273 of 10/10/17
