Antrim arson: Home set on fire with pensioner inside

During the early hours of Tuesday morning, a home in Antrim was set ablaze. The incident was reported to police at approximately 03:20 GMT. The property, located in Rathglynn, was being occupied by an elderly woman who is in her 70s, and was treated for burns to her hands and smoke inhalation. She was subsequently taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said that the incident has been classified as arson with intent and that the property incurred significant damage. A woman in her 40s was also treated for both smoke inhalation and injuries to her hands, as she attempted to rescue the woman from the burning building. Meanwhile, a man in his 40s received treatment for sustaining smoke inhalation while trying to provide support to the victims.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service responded to the fire and were able to contain it. An investigation into the incident is underway, and police are calling for anyone with information to come forward. In the meantime, the police have assured local residents that they are “doing everything possible to identify those responsible for this reckless act.”

It is not yet known what led to the incident and whether the woman was the target of the arson. Police are investigating all possible motives and have called on anyone who may have information about the case to come forward and help in their investigation
