According to reports, a stalker targeted Gladiators star Apollo, whose real name is Alex Gray, 33, on the show’s set in Sheffield as well as at his home and when he was meeting fans. The matter is being investigated by the police. The police stated that an investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing, while the BBC refused to comment and Hungry Bear Media, which produces the show, has not responded to requests for comment. Gray, a former English rugby union and American football player, was introduced in the BBC reboot last year. The Sun on Sunday quoted him as saying that something occurred, but he cannot say much until something is done about it, and that he is still waiting to hear from the police.
Gray recently revealed that he is frequently stopped by fans, but he enjoys the experience. The police and the production team for the show arranged for additional security around the Utilita Arena in Sheffield and outside the building where he resides during filming, according to The Sun newspaper. Gladiators first aired on ITV on October 10, 1992, and was unlike anything seen before. The Lycra-clad gladiators, such as Wolf, Warrior, Shadow, and Cobra, achieved household acclaim, while contenders competed in a variety of challenging situations. The show ran on the network until 2000, before being resurrected by Sky between 2008 and 2009. The BBC reboot in 2024 was a hit, with new Gladiators like Apollo, Sabre, Legend, and Giant immediately becoming fan favourites.
Filming for the second iteration occurred last August in Sheffield, and the show was renewed for a second season, which premiered on BBC One and iPlayer this weekend. Authorities have cautioned the public that stalking should not be taken lightly, and that they will investigate the matter fully.” If you suspect that you are being followed or watched, or if you know somebody who appears to be a victim of stalking, please contact us immediately,” they said
