Conwy water 90% back on despite overnight bursts


Despite more pipe bursts overnight, Welsh Water has confirmed that water supplies have been restored to 90% of homes following major disruption caused by a burst pipe at a treatment plant in Dolgarrog, Conwy. Roughly 40,000 homes have been affected since Wednesday by the disruption, which closed some schools and businesses. Nevertheless, people in elevated areas may face a fourth day without water, with supplies expected to be restored in the afternoon.

In recent days, Welsh Water has repaired a number of smaller leaks and bursts that occurred overnight as the system re-pressurised after emptying. Although the company fixed the damaged pipe on Friday afternoon, it warned it may take 48 hours for supplies to return to normal. Over the weekend, there were further reports of burst pipes in Deganwy and Llandudno, accompanied by social media posts from residents appealing for sandbags.

Small-scale localized leaks have been addressed with the deployment of inspectors to help manage and mitigate any leaks to maintain supplies, Welsh Water confirmed. Four bottled water stations have been set up at stations in Conwy such as Colwyn, Llandudno, and Bodlondeb site to provide alternative water supply for the afraid populace.
