Cher Lloyd, who first became famous in 2010 on the X Factor has spoken to BBC Newsbeat about her upcoming single, Head Down, her first release since 2020. Having signed with Simon Cowell’s record label, she’s released two studio albums and a number one single – Swagger Jagger. Since then, she’s withdrawn from the spotlight. Discussing her new music, she said “it’s spilling the tea” on what went on behind the scenes in her life.
Cher found it difficult when she was on the X Factor, stating that the reality show was not what she was expecting. Cher’s time on the show saw her being targeted by the tabloids, which led to her receiving a reputation as the series villain. When asked how she coped with negative attention during her time on the show, she revealed that she didn’t, leading to “bad decisions” being made.
Since entering motherhood, Cher has found that music is not everything. She’s called for working parents to be given more slack in the music industry. Cher still gets a boost from her single Swagger Jagger, despite being considered by her as “the old me.” Despite fond memories of performing the song at a festival last year, Cher’s keen to show there’s more to her than one track, with her new music, now ready for release.
Cher has gone through a lot since the X Factor, but cherishes the fact that her new music has brought her back to life. She says she now feels “worth it” again and will continue rolling out her new songs
