Eliza and Henrietta Huszti: Sisters search focuses icy on river

Police in Aberdeen are focusing their search for two missing sisters on the River Dee. Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen at Victoria Bridge in Market Street around 2:12 am on Tuesday. They are 32-year-old triplets originally from Hungary. The river has been identified as the main focal point of the investigation and police divers have already searched part of it close to where the sisters were last seen on CCTV.

As the search for the sisters continues, police have extended the search area. On Saturday, searches were extended to include the area towards South Harbour of Port Aberdeen and Duthie Park. These searches have since been intensified along the river, which still has several floating ice patches due to the drop in temperature over the past week. Officers have urged people not to spread unfounded rumours about the disappearance of the sisters.

Speaking on behalf of the police, Ch Insp Darren Bruce said, “Eliza and Henrietta’s family are understandably extremely worried about them, and we are working tirelessly to find them. We are seriously concerned about them and have significant resources dedicated to the inquiry”.

The Huszti family, who said that the sisters moved to Scotland from Hungary about seven years ago, are baffled and concerned about their disappearance. Relatives reported that the sisters preferred to stay home instead of going out, so their appearance on Market Street in the early hours of Tuesday is out of character. Edit Huszti, the other triplet, said on a video call on New Year’s Eve she spoke to them and they seemed happy and cheerful.

“The family is not in a position to give everyone separate information”, read a statement from the family posted on social media. “The authorities in Scotland are carrying out investigations. Therefore, we kindly ask everyone for respect. Please do not spread any unfounded rumours. We can only say what’s already been in the news. Thank you all for being with us in these difficult times
