Thomas’s grandmother, Mary Townsend, urged parents to pay closer attention to the company their sons keep and to take preventative action against knife crime. His aunt, Tanya Taylor, described him as a funny, down-to-earth boy who loved his family and never sought trouble. Bedford Academy head teacher, Chris Deller, described Thomas as popular and respected, with a strong set of Year 11 results and a promising start to sixth form.
Bedfordshire Police have launched an investigation into the fatal attack and appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias described the incident as “an absolutely shocking incident in which a teenage boy has been stabbed to death in a busy town centre”. Several areas of the town centre are cordoned off while police search for the suspects.
Bedford Mayor Tom Wootton echoed the call for information, describing the attack as senseless and tragic.
