Teenager dies after Bedford bus station stabbing

A murder inquiry has been launched after a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed near a bus station in Bedford. Thomas Taylor, a Bedford Academy student, was walking along Greenhill Street when he was attacked by a group of males just before 6 pm on Wednesday. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but later died. Several areas of the town centre were cordoned off while Bedfordshire Police searched for the suspects, who were black and wearing dark clothing. They are thought to have fled towards Hassett Street and Greyfriars Car Park.

Bedford Academy’s head teacher, Chris Deller, described Taylor as a “popular, well-liked and respected lad”. “Our focus now is on supporting the family through such a difficult period, whilst helping our students and wider community to come to terms with such a tragic loss,” he said. Det Ch Insp Katie Dounias from Bedfordshire Police’s major crime unit, said it was “an absolutely shocking incident in which a teenage boy has been stabbed to death in a busy town centre”.

Knife crime has “no place in our communities”, said Supt Hob Hoque, adding that police would have a visible presence in the town with additional patrols. Bedfordshire Police is asking anyone with information to come forward and has requested that social media users refrain from sharing videos and images connected to the boy’s death
