McDonald’s faces new abuse claims despite promises of change


Reports have surfaced that the UK equality watchdog has listened to a number of claims stating continued sexual harassment and abuse of McDonald’s workers. The report acknowledged 300 separate incidents of harassment since the BBC first exposed the widespread concerns over staff treatment in 2023. As per the workers, they are still facing sexual abuse even though a year has passed since the company boss promised to overhaul working conditions. The report also revealed that McDonald’s will have to face MPs for a second time on Tuesday to answer questions about why employees are still facing sexual abuse and harassment.

One current and two former employees from various regions of the country have claimed that after the promised restaurant audits, the branches were stage-managed by the branches and did not achieve much. Over 700 junior employees have initiated litigation against McDonald’s, claiming the company was not successful in safeguarding them. These claims include the following: A worker in the West Midlands quit her job in 2023-end after complaining about managers who had inappropriately touched her while customers harassed her. A 16-year-old current employee with a branch in the West Midlands claims he was bullied and shouted at by managers. One female worker stated that her male manager sent her topless pictures
