Georgie Swallow: 'I knew if I died I'd have a million regrets'

Georgie Swallow grew up feeling insecure about her appearance, often wasting time trying to lose weight. At the age of 26, she was diagnosed with cancer, which later came back. However, now aged 32, her perspective on life has changed, and she wants to share her positivity with the world.

Georgie was born and raised in Iver, Buckinghamshire, and enjoyed a lovely childhood with an older sister and a younger sister, with lots of friends. As a teenager, she battled with insecurities about her body image, something that she now knows was a waste of time.

At the age of 24, she began to feel run-down, constantly coming down with colds and allergies, and all the while suffering from tremendously itchy legs. As she continued to lose weight, Georgie, naively taking weight-loss supplements, thought this was causing her symptoms.

Georgie was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the most common cancer in young adults. However, the diagnosis was caught just in time, and she was able to begin treatment with chemotherapy. Georgie initially got better, but the cancer eventually came back, which led to more rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. The cancer, luckily, went away for a second time after the stem cell transplant.

Georgie’s perspective on life is now vastly different from her pre-cancer days. She remains grateful for the time she has and encourages people to say “yes” to opportunities more often. Georgie focuses on living life to the fullest, post-cancer, by hosting group travel trips called “Life’s for Living.” These trips offer individuals an opportunity to meet new people and tick things off their bucket lists
