A rare number plate that was once used by the official car of East Renfrewshire Council’s provost failed to sell as the Scottish council had hoped. HS 0 was put on the market in January 2023 with a six-figure price tag to raise critical funds. The local authority had expected interest from high-profile figures such as Harry Styles, Hilary Swank, or Helen Skelton, who share the same initials as the plate. However, according to a recent freedom of information request, the registration has not caught the eye of any buyer.
Harry Styles, a long-time classic car enthusiast, seemed to be unimpressed with the offer. Despite little interest in prospective buyers securing the number plate, East Renfrewshire Council is optimistic that the HS 0 registration will still sell for a six-figure sum. A spokesperson for the council has said that the plate remains for sale; thus, they are confident it will draw a buyer who recognises its historic value.
Nowadays, vanity plates are one of the conspicuous ways for the wealthy to display their ostentation; however, the value of HS 0 goes beyond its recognition factor. This rare number plate is a tangible connection with the past, reminding locals of the Eastwood District Council’s history, which is added allure that could potentially attract serious buyers
