The Foreign Office has confirmed that a British national was among the 14 people killed in the New Year’s Day vehicle attack in New Orleans. He was identified as Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old from Chelsea, London. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office said it was supporting Pettifer’s family.
Pettifer’s family released a statement which said that their son was a “wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to so many.” They added that they “will all miss him terribly.” The family requested that they can grieve the loss of Pettifer as a family in private.
Other victims of the attack include a well-known American college football player, a young aspiring nurse, and a mother of a four-year-old. Their names were released by families and relatives before the authorities had completed post-mortem examinations.
