Watch: Snow-battered rescuers save three on Scottish hilltop

A group of hillwalkers were rescued from the Cairngorms in Scotland after a long overnight operation by Braemar and Aberdeen Mountain Rescue teams. The three walkers got into difficulty after encountering harsh weather conditions and were stranded on Lairig Ghru. After making a call for help, more than 20 rescue team members worked tirelessly through the night to ensure the safety of the stranded hikers.

Thankfully, all three walkers were found safe and well despite the cold snap in Scotland bringing a fresh dusting of snow and ice. As temperatures plummeted to -6°C, a number of other areas in the UK had also been issued with weather warnings due to the inclement weather.

The efforts of these brave mountain rescue teams are heroic and emphasise the importance of safety when walking in harsh weather conditions or rugged terrain. Hillwalkers must take the necessary precautions and gear with them when embarking on walks in these conditions. The fact that all three of the walkers in this incident were successfully rescued is testament to the skill and dedication of the teams involved in the operation.

It is hoped that this incident serves as a reminder to hikers and visitors of the great outdoors to respect the environment and only undertake walks that match their level of fitness and experience. Allowing for extra time and carrying the correct equipment is crucial in ensuring a safe and enjoyable day out for all. It is comforting to know that there are mountain rescue teams across the world who are dedicated to keeping us all safe in these awe-inspiring and sometimes treacherous environments
