Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Saltburn led to 110 gigs in 2024

Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed more shows in 2024 than ever before, reaching a total of 110. This figure far exceeded that of Taylor Swift’s 83 shows in the same year. Speaking of her success, Ellis-Bextor attributes it to the film Saltburn and its depiction of a naked man dancing to her hit song Murder on the Dancefloor. The release of Saltburn on Amazon Prime led to an increase in streams and TikTok popularity, pushing the song back into the top 10.

The success of Murder on the Dancefloor continued for Ellis-Bextor throughout the year. She secured her first-ever hit single on the Billboard Top 100 and made her debut performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, leading to her first headline tour in the US. Ellis-Bextor was invited to sing at the Bafta Film Awards, made a guest appearance at Peggy Gou’s headline set at Glastonbury, and even performed in front of King Charles at the Royal Variety Show.

Ellis-Bextor’s highly successful year culminated in her performance at the BBC One New Year’s Eve concert. This concert was a special moment for the singer, who described it as a “career highlight”. Ellis-Bextor had been planning the show for two months, and her husband and musical director, Richard Jones, helped her to create a memorable performance. The setlist included some of her biggest hits, such as Music Gets the Best of Me, Take Me Home, and Groovejet, and she also sang a duet with Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters.

In addition to her successful year in music, Ellis-Bextor also had some fun resolutions for 2025. She finished 2024 by successfully completing her resolution to “wear more kaftans” and will challenge herself to purchase more disco balls in 2025. The singer’s New Year’s Eve performance, titled Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s New Year’s Eve Disco, was broadcast on BBC One, excluding Scotland, where Hogmany coverage featured musical guests Marti Pellow and the folk band Skipinnish
