Jewellery worth £10m stolen from home in St John's Wood in London

Police in London have reported the theft of over £10m ($13m) worth of jewellery, as well as £150,000 worth of designer handbags, from a house in St. John’s Wood. The Metropolitan Police revealed that a white man in his late 20s to early 30s broke into the property via a second-floor window between 5pm and 5.30pm on 7 December. The burglar, who wore a dark hoodie, cargo pants and a grey baseball cap, took cash, jewellery and the handbags, including Hermes Crocodile Kelly bags, which were worth £15,000 each.

Unique items taken included a Van Cleef necklace studded with sapphires and diamonds, two De Beers diamond rings featuring butterfly designs and pink sapphire butterfly-shaped earrings crafted by Katherine Wang. The occupants of the house have offered a £500,000 ($670,000) reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the thief. Another reward, equalling 10% of the value of any recovered items, has also been offered for information leading to the retrieval of the jewellery.

The Metropolitan Police issued an appeal for witnesses, adding that many of the missing items would be easily identifiable because of their unique designs. They also stated that the burglary was a particularly audacious one, since the thief had entered an occupied property armed with an unknown weapon and had thus violated the occupants’ home. The area in which the burglary took place, Avenue Road, links Regent’s Park and Swiss Cottage and has some of the priciest properties in the capital.

The police have asked that anyone with information about the theft or those responsible should contact the Metropolitan Police, or to contact Crimestoppers if preferring to remain anonymous. They are also looking for anyone who may have been approached with offers of unique and valuable jewellery for sale
