Gatwick Airport Departures: Disruption continues into fourth day


For the fourth consecutive day, Gatwick Airport is experiencing disruptions due to heavy fog in one of its busiest periods. Although some restrictions have been lifted, the airport has confirmed that a noticeable delay in flights is expected. Furthermore, the airport claimed to have canceled 20 flights on Monday to reduce passenger inconvenience and facilitate the relocation of aircraft. While the situation may improve, the disruption’s ramifications are expected to persist once the fog dissolves, upending travel schedules and affecting air traffic movement.

The airport has expressed regret for any delays and urged passengers to contact their airlines for more information and the level of compensation entitled to them. Those on flights postponed by more than two hours may receive support, including food and housing if necessary. Meanwhile, air traffic constraints were briefly put in place following reduced visibility.

The overcast weather forecast for Monday morning did not suggest fog yet anticipated a dry, mild, and blustery day that might change into clouds in the evening. Moreover, the fact that the disruptions had lasted for four days meant that once operations resumed, planes and pilots were likely to be out of position, causing further delays in air travel. Nats, the air traffic regulator, commented that the weekend’s chaotic weather conditions had immensely improved, and only a few air traffic regulations were within usual operating limits.
