Blackburn: Third murder arrest after Christmas Day pub row death


A man who was hit by a car on Christmas Day and later died in hospital has led to the arrest of three people on suspicion of murder. Kirk Marsden, 37, from Blackburn, was injured outside The Gate bar on the corner of Moorgate Street, Blackburn, just after 4:45 pm on Wednesday. Lancashire Constabulary said a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday evening. A 58-year-old man and a 35-year-old man from Blackburn were also arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr. Marsden was known to his family as a “well-loved son, brother, and uncle who will be sorely missed”. The family message also stated, “To our hero, spread your wings far and wide, your partner Leanne and your babies love you millions.” Police have described the incident as an “isolated incident”, and the vehicle recovered was from a car park in Brindle Street. The force said the vehicle was driven away from the bar onto Livesey Branch Road.

Det Ch Insp Bryony Midgley has appealed for anyone who witnessed what happened to come forward. The 58-year-old man was released on conditional bail, while the other two men are currently in custody. Mr. Marsden, who was from Blackburn, died in the early hours of Boxing Day at the Royal Preston Hospital.

The incident has left the community devastated, with tributes pouring in on social media for the popular man. Lancashire Police have said that they are keeping an open mind about the investigation. They have called for witnesses to come forward and assist the investigation team
