The Singing Binman: Charles Cavey has busked in a Cambridge bin for 25 years


For over a quarter of a century, the locals of Cambridge have been treated to the musical stylings of Charles Cavey, also known as The Singing Binman. This unique and beloved performer first came up with the idea while working for a local punting company. As he watched the refuse trucks moving along the busy streets, he became awed by the idea that he too could fit into one of these bins.

With some ingenuity and determination, Cavey set about sourcing and converting his own bin into a fully-functioning performance space. Since then, he has delighted audiences with his spontaneous musical numbers, earning fans both in Cambridge and beyond. In fact, he has even appeared on the popular talent show, Britain’s Got Talent, as well as been hired to perform at a number of weddings.

Despite his growing recognition, Cavey remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He believes that his music has the ability to bring joy to others, and delights in the fact that he is able to combine his love of singing with his job as a binman.

Cavey’s talent has even caught the attention of boxer Tyson Fury, who shared a video of The Singing Binman on his Instagram page. With his unique style and dedication to performing, it seems that Charles Cavey’s star is only set to rise higher in the coming years
