After spending 1,000 days in kennels during the last three Christmases, a three-year-old rescue dog named Sarah has finally been rehomed. The plea for help by the RSPCA Block Fen Centre in Cambridgeshire was read by the Baker family in Nottinghamshire, who ultimately decided to give Sarah a new home. Sarah was taken in during November 2021, but only became available for rehoming in December 2022 due to court proceedings as part of a large welfare case.
New owner Joanne said that since coming home with them, “she has relaxed and become a loved member of our family.” Joanne also said that anybody looking to adopt a dog should not have preconceptions about rescue animals. The Baker family specifically chose Sarah after they read her story on the BBC News website, not wanting the young dog to spend the rest of her life in kennels.
Sarah is now enjoying chasing her lurcher sibling in the large garden of their old farmhouse, zooming around and having fun. House training only took a week, and the family is making sure that Sarah’s first Christmas with them is extra special, with a stocking filled with treats, a long walk, and a bit of Christmas dinner.
Sarah had previously come close to finding a family twice before, but it didn’t work out until now. Tiffany Saunders, RSPCA kennel supervisor at Block Fen in Wimblington said, “Before she came to us, her life had been awful as she was shut in a kennel all the time and didn’t know how to walk on a lead and had to be carried out of the venue she was rescued from.” Sarah finally has the loving family life she deserves
