For your eyes only: Sir Roger Moore's unseen home videos


Sir Roger Moore, famed James Bond actor, had a passion for filming. Not just in front of the camera. Behind as well. The actor captured never-before-seen moments of his family and famous friends in home videos, which will air on a new Christmas Day BBC documentary. The video features a young Sir Elton John descending from the skies in a helicopter for lunch with Sir Roger’s celebrity guests. Guests included Joan Collins and David Attenborough.

Roger Moore’s son Geoffrey found the old video cassettes in the cupboards and garage of the family’s Swiss home. Geoffrey played a game of tennis with Sir Elton John and remembers the gathering in France well. He gives an exclusive interview to BBC News for the documentary. Geoffrey recalls that the way his father filmed his children was “as any father would film his children. It was just a family guy recording, documenting a time”. The actor captured much more intimate moments of his life with his three children, Geoffrey, Deborah, and Christian.

Being surrounded by silver screen stars was completely normal for the Moore family. Frank Sinatra was close to the family, and they spent many Thanksgivings and Easters together. He was even present in home videos discovered. Kirk Douglas, Cary Grant, and Gregory Peck were all dear friends with the Moores, according to Geoffrey. Geoffrey also remembers meeting Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, and Olivia de Havilland.
