Warrington man abandons haircut to help officer under attack

A police officer was assisted by a man in the midst of having his hair styled, after being tackled to the ground in a headlock. Kyle Whiting, who was getting a haircut at Haron Barbers in Warrington, Cheshire, noticed the confrontation and ran outside to intervene. Dragging the man off the officer, Whiting allowed the officer to handcuff the suspect. Mobile phone footage of the incident was shared on social media, turning Whiting into a hero overnight.

Whiting’s sister is also a police officer, and he said that he felt his actions were a matter of putting himself in someone else’s shoes. If it had been his sister, he would have hoped someone would have done the same for her. After reacting quickly, he returned to the barber’s chair to finish his hair cut.

Whiting was in the area with his girlfriend when he noticed something going on outside. He recounted when he saw his barber start recording on his phone, he looked outside and saw the suspect swing for the officer and throw him to the ground. He stated that he felt he had no choice but to intervene.

The police have thanked Whiting for his help during the incident, which took place on 16 December. In a coincidence, Whiting later saw the same police officer sitting in the A&E unit with his girlfriend, waiting for an X-ray on the finger he had broken during the incident
