Max George, who is a member of the boy band The Wanted, has announced that he has undergone a pacemaker implant just days after disclosing that he would undergo surgery to rectify a cardiac ailment. The artist shared a photograph of his chest showing a small battery-operated device that rectifies the cardiac rhythm. George divulged that the surgeon positioned the pacemaker under a “special tattoo” which marked 04/08/1998, the birthdate of his late bandmate Tom Parker.
George had previously disclosed that the diagnosis revealed “a 2:1 block” in his heart, whereby the organ beats irregularly or at a slower pace due to problems during the electrical pulses. The artist was admitted to the hospital ten days ago after feeling unwell, and the cardiac issues were also discovered during this period.
He described his new pacemaker, which he nicknamed his “little friend,” as the “best Christmas gift he could have wished for” in a statement shared on social media on Saturday. George acknowledged that his operation lasted approximately two and a half hours, stating that “some of [his] veins had collapsed where the wires were meant to go,” but the NHS staff had been incredible. George added that the pacemaker’s positioning beneath his tattoo tribute to Tom Parker ensured him that it was being cared for.
George said he would undergo additional tests due to inflamed lymph nodes on his lungs, but he was optimistic that he would be home for Christmas. George thanked his support network, noting that it has meant a lot to him and his family.
