Grace Dent to replace Gregg Wallace on Celebrity MasterChef

Grace Dent, a well-known food critic, is set to host the next series of Celebrity MasterChef, taking the reins from Gregg Wallace who stepped back from presenting the show after allegations were made against him. Dent, who has appeared on the show regularly as a guest and was a contestant on MasterChef: Battle of the Critics last year, expressed her excitement about the opportunity, describing it as “more than a dream to me”. John Torode will continue to host alongside Dent, praising her as an “excellent guest and inspiring critic” whom he has “loved” working with over the years.

Wallace stepped away from presenting MasterChef following a BBC News investigation which heard allegations of inappropriate sexual comments made by 13 people who worked with him. Wallace’s lawyers have denied the allegations. It has not been confirmed whether Dent will also replace Wallace on the other series in the MasterChef franchise.

Dent, who is 51 and also works as the restaurant critic for the Guardian and hosts a podcast called Comfort Eating with Grace Dent, has previously appeared on reality TV. In 2023, she was a contestant on I’m a Celebrity but had to leave the show after a week due to medical reasons.

The MasterChef franchise remains popular, with MasterChef (Amateurs) currently in production. However, the BBC pulled its MasterChef Christmas specials, which included two celebrity episodes hosted by Wallace, after the allegations against him. Dent expressed her excitement for the upcoming series and said she can’t wait to meet the fresh celebrity faces that will compete in 2025. Torode praised Dent’s expertise, describing it as a key aspect of the show, stating that she is the “perfect person” to join him as a judge for the Celebrity MasterChef series
