A new video for Elton John’s hit song Step Into Christmas has been released, in which model and actress Cara Delevingne takes on the role of the iconic musician. The video recreates the original 1973 track, with Delevingne wearing oversized glasses and a colourful waistcoat that gives her an uncanny resemblance to John. Delevingne said that playing the 77-year-old musician was “a dream I didn’t know I had”. The video takes viewers behind the scenes as producers work to create a suitably festive set, while Delevingne sings and plays piano.
Sir Elton and Delevingne first met over the summer at the Glastonbury music festival, where they discussed the possibility of working together. Sir Elton said that when the idea of Delevingne playing him in the music video arose, “it was the perfect opportunity”. Delevingne, in turn, paid tribute to Sir Elton’s music, calling him “an idol of mine”. At present, Step Into Christmas is number 15 in the UK singles chart.
Last month, Sir Elton revealed that he had not been able to finish his new album due to vision issues. He told Good Morning America that he had lost the vision in his right eye owing to an infection, whilst his left eye “is not the greatest”. Despite this, he told The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he intends to continue making records and have “a musical future”
