Gordonstoun: King's former school ends deal with spy row firm


Gordonstoun, the renowned Scottish boarding school where several members of the British Royal Family have been educated, has cut ties with a Chinese firm accused of espionage. The school ended its relationship with Hampton Group International after it emerged that the company’s chairman, Yang Tengbo, had been identified as the Chinese spy known as “H6”. The deal would have led to the creation of five schools in China linked to Gordonstoun.

Yang, who is also a close associate of the Duke of York, strongly denies the spying allegations and claims he is a victim of the increasing tension between the UK and China. The chairman, also known as Chris Yang, has been banned from the UK since last year. In July, he lost his appeal to enter the country at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission.

Prince Andrew, a former pupil of Gordonstoun, reportedly had a close relationship with Yang. However, the Duke of York has since announced that he has “ceased all contact” with the Chinese business figure. Yang is also the subject of a UK legal action brought by women who allege that he and other Chinese nationals sexually abused them.

Gordonstoun School was founded in 1934 by German educator Kurt Hahn, and has 160 acres on the Moray coast. Attending pupils from the Royal Family include Prince Philip, King Charles, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. Princess Anne’s children, Peter and Zara Phillips, also studied there
