An investigation has been launched after a shooting in the Harlesden area of north-west London resulted in a woman being killed, and two men injured. Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 9.15 p.m. on 29 May. The wounded men, both thought to be in their 30s, were taken to hospital, with one said to be in a critical condition and the other’s injuries not thought to be life-threatening. Police were said to be “working at pace” to establish the circumstances around the attack, which resulted in the closure of the junction of Gifford Road and Creukhorne Road.
The Reverend Dr. Lorraine Dixon, a local community leader, has called for an end to the escalating violence in the area. Speaking to the BBC she said: “I’m hoping that we can come together as churches and community leaders to stop this violence. All it will take is something to spark it back up again and it could be worse. So we need a call out from our community to say enough is enough, let’s stop this violence.”
The shooting was the latest in a series of violent incidents in the capital. On the same weekend, one person was killed and two injured in a stabbing in Croydon, whilst the previous week, two people were killed in knife attacks in the space of two hours in London. Earlier this year, it was reported that 137 homicides were recorded in the capital in 2020 – a rise from 136 in 2019.
The Metropolitan Police have appealed for anyone with information about the Harlesden shooting, which is being treated as murder, to come forward.
