Storm Darragh: National Grid 'biggest effort' to restore power


One major storm hit Wales hard, impacting the power supply of 64,000 properties in mid and south Wales. National Grid had to undertake its biggest ever restoration effort to recover the condition of electricity supply to these properties. Fortunately, no one got injured in this storm while energy networks were working round the clock to repair damages to restore normalcy.

Wind gusts at the speed of over 90 mph were the cause of major damages due to Storm Darragh. National Grid functionaries and others worked tirelessly to restore power supply, which was eventually achieved. Currently, the network has been restored to normal conditions, and all the customers impacted by this storm received the full power supply.

Transmission of electricity network in Wales and England is managed by the National Grid, including overhead lines. It will take some time to repair the hardest hit areas of the storm and support customers in need. National Grid has restored power supply to over 64,000 properties affected by Storm Darragh, but the work is ongoing.

Scottish Power reported that a further 31,000 homes in north and mid Wales had lost power as the storm continued, making this one of the most intense storms Wales has seen in recent years. The grid will continue to work until all homes and businesses have returned to normal power conditions.
