More than £14,000 worth of Elvis Presley memorabilia has been sold at auction. The collection belonged to a single individual who had been acquiring them since the 1960s, and consisted of 99 lots of Elvis memorabilia, including several described as personal. Prestige Auctions in Grimsby auctioned off the items at their event on Wednesday, 10 November.
One of the staple items of the collection was a silver ring that Elvis had owned and worn in the mid to late 1960s, which sold for £1,200 pounds. Also, included was a cigar that Elvis had handed to a collector before entering the lift at The Oakland Hilton Inn in 1972. It sold for £170. The items were in high demand, with the silver jumpsuit being sold for £400.
The man who had spent his life collecting the items said, “The client said he’s loved the collection for many years but no members of his family have any interest in it so it’s time to go to other collectors who enjoy it.” Items ranged from a Science Of Religion book, said to be personally owned by Elvis, with his own handwritten notes in the margins, which sold for £2,600, to Elvis’s father’s wristwatch.
In addition to the most recent sale, Elvis’s blue suede shoes once sold for £120,000, whilst a lock of his hair fetched £4,000. The intensity of this auction shows that the world’s fascination with Elvis and his legacy shows no signs of abating.
