Levi Fishlock: Man gets joint-longest sentence for summer riots


A man who was part of a group that attacked a hotel housing asylum seekers has been sent to prison for nine years, making this the second joint-longest prison sentence associated with the UK’s summer of riots. Levi Fishlock attacked the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham, on 4 August, breaking windows and starting a flaming bin. Fishlock denied violent disorder and arson with intent to endanger life but later pleaded guilty to the charges. The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, stated that “This is one of the worst cases of its kind stemming from the Rotherham disorder” as he moved to sentence Fishlock.
 
Fishlock was part of a mob of 400 that attempted to torch the hotel. Over 60 police officers sustained injuries during the disorder, where rioters armed with weapons surrounded the hotel. everyone in the hotel plus the security staff were advised to hide in the bedrooms and lock the doors for protection.
