Tom Voyce, a former rugby player for England, has been missing since Sunday after attempting to cross Abberwick Ford, which was flooded by Storm Darragh, in his car and being pulled along by the river’s current. While a search has been ongoing since then, an official spokesperson from Northumbria Police has since announced it is believed Mr Voyce has “been swept away and tragically died” in his attempts to escape.

Matt Dawson, who played alongside him at Wasps from 2004 to 2006, expressed his overwhelming sadness and inability to “express his sadness” on social media, while Premiership Rugby and Bath Rugby both stated they were “devastated” by the news.
British & Irish Lions also sent “heartfelt thoughts and prayers” to Mr Voyce’s family and friends during this “deeply distressing time”, and Penryn Rugby Football Club, where he played in Cornwall, said their “thoughts and prayers” were with his family, friends, and everyone affected.
The severe weather brought about by Storm Darragh caused a number of flood warnings throughout the UK, with two Mountain Rescue teams in Northumberland, as well as the family and friends of Mr Voyce, also contributing to search efforts. While the rugby community continues to be affected by Mr Voyce’s loss, the thoughts and support of many are with his loved ones during this difficult time
