Missing person search near Northumberland ford flooded in storm


A search for a missing person is ongoing in a flooded area following Storm Darragh. Two mountain rescue teams, the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team, have confirmed that 22 volunteers are involved in the search for the person in the area near Alnwick. The teams are scouring the Abberwick ford region, where a minor road crosses the River Aln near the village of Bolton in North Northumberland.

The storm brought harsh weather conditions to the UK from the early hours of Saturday morning, which led to a flood warning in some areas. Road and rail travel was disrupted, and thousands of people across the UK were left without power. Two people were killed in separate incidents when trees fell on their cars. Redesdale Camp recorded more than 48mm of rain on Saturday, with gusts of 58mph along the Northumberland coast.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service dealt with multiple calls related to power cuts, surface water flooding affecting roads, and fallen trees. The search for the missing person is ongoing, however, the identity of the person has not been revealed at this time. Mountain rescue teams are continuing to provide their assistance in the search operations.
