Lisa Hession, a 14-year-old girl, was sexually assaulted and murdered while walking home alone from a party 40 years ago. Her body was found in an alleyway just 200 yards away from her home in Leigh, Greater Manchester. Despite efforts from authorities and members of the public, no one has ever been charged with the murder.
Police say they have DNA evidence that could lead to the killer’s conviction but have never found a match. The case has been subject to numerous reviews since 1984 and investigators have used advances in forensic techniques to re-analyze all information provided by the public. In an effort to solve the case, a £50,000 reward is still being offered for information leading to the identification and conviction of the killer.
Lisa, who was involved in cross-country running and gymnastics, had spent the evening of December 8, 1984, with her boyfriend at a friend’s house. She left her friends at 10:15 pm to walk home alone, but she never made it. Her mother, Christine, reported her missing at 10:45 pm when Lisa did not return home at the expected time. Sadly, Christine passed away in 2016 without ever knowing who killed her daughter.
In 2005, a BBC Crimewatch appeal sparked 27 calls from members of the public, some of which were reporting concerning behaviors of their partners at the time of the murder. Authorities hope that by continuing to spread awareness of the case, they may receive new information that could lead to the identification and conviction of Lisa’s killer
