Heathrow Airport experienced some difficult conditions on Saturday morning resulting from the high winds caused by Storm Darragh. Pilots of several planes were forced to perform go-arounds while others needed to adjust their approach before landing safely. Across the country, the storm has resulted in significant travel disruption, negatively affecting railways, roads, and airports. The National Grid has revealed that tens of thousands of people are without power due to the storm.
Despite the challenges to aviation, Big Jet TV captured footage of several planes making their approach in the difficult conditions. The video gives an up-close look at how the winds were affecting the planes, with some appearing to approach awkwardly before correcting their path for a safe landing. Serene Khalifeh, video editor for Big Jet TV, spliced together several clips from the airport that morning to create the footage.
Storm Darragh has not been limited to aviation disruptions. With sustained high winds battering buildings and trees, the National Grid has been forced to send out emergency crews to attempt to restore power to affected areas. Train lines and roads have also been closed due to safety concerns from the high winds. While the worst of the storm passed by mid-day Saturday, its effects are likely to be felt throughout the rest of the weekend
