John Torode, MasterChef presenter, expressed that he was “truly upsetting” about the recent allegations against his co-host, Gregg Wallace. Torode expressed his thoughts stating that “the thought of anyone who has appeared on our show not having a brilliant experience is awful to hear”. The comments from Torode came after Wallace stepped back from the show due to ongoing allegations that he denies amid an investigation of inappropriate behavior.
Torode posted on Instagram, in light of the situation, that he “loves being part of” the show and “will continue to be part of it”. Torode added in his post that he has been making efforts to focus on work and contestants while away filming MasterChef. He expressed further that due to an “investigation under way” he hopes everyone understands his silence on the matter.
Wallace’s lawyers have “strongly” denied any claims stating that he engages in sexual harassment. The BBC has pulled MasterChef’s celebrity Christmas specials, Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off and a special Strictly-themed episode from its festive schedule. Banijay UK, the production company behind the show, had announced Wallace’s “stepping away from his role on MasterChef” following complaints from individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct.
John, who first became known on TV in 1996 as the resident chef on ITV’s This Morning, has been presenting the show MasterChef since 2005 alongside Wallace. MasterChef launched in 2005 as a revamped version of the original 1990-2001 series, which was hosted by Loyd Grossman.
