The wife of Thomas Kingston, the financier and husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, has stated that his death was “likely provoked” by a reaction to medication. Kingston died of a head injury in February of this year, with a gun found near his body. Lady Gabriella warned of the risks of drugs used to treat mental health issues, saying that users need to be more aware of the side-effects in order to try to prevent any similar tragedies occurring in the future.
The inquest into Mr Kingston’s death was informed that he had initially been given a sleeping tablet and a drug used to treat depression, before complaining that he was not feeling better. He was then switched to another, similar, drug before his death. Mr Kingston had reportedly stopped taking medication in the days leading up to his death, having complained of difficulty sleeping due to stress at work.
In describing her marriage, Lady Gabriella called it “deeply loving and trusting”, and said that Mr Kingston had never expressed any suicidal thoughts. The evidence presented to the inquest supported the supposition that Mr Kingston had suffered an adverse reaction to medication. The Princess has urged others in similar positions to be aware of the possible risks associated with medication prescribed to treat mental health issues.
